Confirmed Lineups: Borussia Dortmund vs. LOSC Lille

With just over an hour to go until kick-off, Borussia Dortmund’s head coach Niko Kovač has announced his starting eleven to take on LOSC Lille. The team from northern France currently sit in fifth place after 24 rounds of Ligue 1 action and have enjoyed a successful run in Europe’s premier competition thus far.

Meanwhile, Die Schwarzgelben will hoping to build up a lead to take with them into the second-leg next Wednesday at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Kovač’s side should be confident after their comfortable progression through the prior play-off round against Sporting Lisbon in February.

Tonight, Dortmund make 4 alterations to their line-up which secured a 2-0 victory over St.Pauli at the Millerntor last Saturday afternoon. Gregor Kobel remains in goals as Julian Ryerson returns to fitness and replaces Yan Couto at right-back. Emre Can captains the team alongside Nico Schlotterbeck, while Daniel Svensson gets the nod over Rami Bensebaini.

Felix Nmecha (knee) remains on the sidelines, therefore the midfield is comprised of Pascal Groß and Marcel Sabitzer in the double-six. Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Gittens start on the flanks with Julian Brandt central behind Serhou Guirassy who will be keen to add to his 10-goal tally thus far.

Confirmed Lineups: Borussia Dortmund vs. Sporting CP

With slightly over an hour to go until kick-off, Borussia Dortmund’s head coach Niko Kovac has announced his starting eleven to take on Sporting Lisbon. The team from the Portuguese capital currently sit in first place after 22 rounds of Liga Portugal action, but have left themselves with a mountain to climb at the Westfalenstadion.

Meanwhile, Die Schwarzgelben will hope to secure a place in the Round of 16 if tonight’s second-leg goes well for them. With a healthy 3-0 aggregate lead carried over from last Wednesday, BVB will be confident of advancing without too much fuss against their Portuguese opponents in front of their famous Yellow Wall.

Tonight, Dortmund make a solitary alteration to their line-up which succumbed to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of VfL Bochum last Saturday afternoon. Gregor Kobel remains in goals as Julian Ryerson returns to fitness and replaces Niklas Süle at right-back. Emre Can captains the side from centre-half with Nico Schlotterbeck and Daniel Svensson.

Felix Nmecha (knee) remains on the sidelines, therefore the midfield consists of a Pascal Groß and Marcel Sabitzer double pivot. Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Gittens bring the speed on the flanks, as Julian Brandt slots in behind leading goal-scorer Serhou Guirassy up top.

As for the hosts, Sporting will require somewhat of a minor miracle if they are to oust BVB out of Europe’s premier competition. Tonight, head coach Rui Borges lines up in a 5-2-3 formation with Morten Hjulmand as captain. Neither of ex-Mainz man Jeremiah St.Juste or former St.Pauli striker Viktor Gyökeres travelled with the squad to North Rhine-Westphalia.

Borussia Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Kobel – Ryerson, Can (c), Schlotterbeck, Svensson – Groß, Sabitzer – Adeyemi, Brandt, Gittens – Guirassy

Sporting CP (5-2-3): Rui Silva – Esgiao, Inacio, Diomande, Quaresma, Matheus Reis – Hjulmand (c), João Simões – Quenda, Harder, Biel

Borussia Dortmund vs. Sporting CP preview: Team news and predicted lineups

After losing 1-2 to Stuttgart in Niko Kovac’s first game in charge, Borussia Dortmund looked to have turned the corner with an impressive 3-0 away win in the first leg of their Champions League knockout phase play-off tie with Sporting CP last week.

However, as so often this season, a good European performance was followed by a poor domestic one, as Dortmund lost 2-0 to relegation-threatened VfL Bochum at the weekend.

Centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck warned of a “horror season” ahead if Dortmund don’t steady the ship soon.

“It’s about doing the basics on the pitch. Taking on duels, going into duels, winning duels. That has to change as quickly as possible. And if we can’t do that, then we deserve to be where we are. We have to get it right quickly, otherwise it will be a horror season,” Schlotterbeck said after the loss to Bochum.

The Black and Yellows will now be looking to bounce back, seal a place in the last 16 of the Champions League against Sporting and then turn their attention back to the Bundesliga, where their main concerns lie.

Fortunately for them, things are not going well for Sporting either, with the Portuguese champions now winless in their last three games after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Arouca at the weekend.

In terms of absentees, Felix Nmecha and Filippo Mané remain on the sidelines for Dortmund with long-term injuries, while Ramy Bensebaini could miss out again with the muscle injury that has kept him out of the last two games.

Carney Chukwuemeka, meanwhile, is expected to return to the squad after returning to training on Sunday following a knee problem.

BVB coach Niko Kovac is expected to make changes to his starting line-up after the poor performance against Bochum, with Julian Ryerson and Salih Özcan likely to come into the side at the expense of Niklas Süle and Marcel Sabitzer, who both struggled on Saturday.

Daniel Braganca, Geny Catamo, Hidemasa Morita, Pedro Goncalves and Nuno Santos are out for Sporting.
